Biometrics White Papers
Privacy and Biometrics
Overview Biometric systems can be designed to put the power of the biometric into the hands of the individual, as opposed to the government, the police, or big business. Applications can be configured to give the data subject the ability to control access to his or her own biometric data, to safeguard the integrity of his or her personal information, and to protect his or her identity against theft or misappropriation. Recognizing the potential of biometrics to enhance security and privacy prompted the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario, Canada, to work with public and private sector organizations to effectively identify and address privacy concerns prior to the implementation of biometric technology.
