The Common Criteria and Other IT Security Requirements for Government Agencies

Overview As physical electronic security moves toward convergence with the IT sector or existing systems are redefined as "information systems," such systems or applications will be required to comply with the standards and norms that govern IT systems in the government space. This convergence is being primarily driven by physical access control systems and, to a degree, digital video applications in the government space. Certification will also likely be true of systems or subsystems that are or will be funded by the government in the quasi-public and private sectors for critical infrastructure protection. There is precedent to anticipate that as these solutions are rolled out and debugged in government, large end users and the private sector will adopt them as well.
