Overview The Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) focuses on Information Technology (IT) security management and uses the authority of public law to drive improvement across Federal IT programs. FISMA is based on lessons learned from years of IT security audits and assessments that, historically, have generated poor results across Federal agencies. As organizations continue to adjust to evolving IT security requirements under FISMA, OMB, and NIST publications, NetSec recommends that CIOs initiate the following activities to ensure that a security program is structured to succeed.
