Electric Utility Decreases Maintenance Costs, Increases Productivity With ASP Model

Overview Bristol Tennessee Electric System (BTES), the public electric utility serving Bristol, Tennessee, needed to upgrade its aging Microsoft Windows NT Server - based network to ensure a continuing flow of support, new features, and security updates. Its network of five servers and 55 desktops was becoming an increasingly heavy maintenance burden for its sole IT professional. BTES decided to upgrade its desktops to Microsoft Windows XP Professional and its servers to Windows Server 2003, while outsourcing the hosting of key applications to Microsoft Certified Provider NetTec NSI. The software upgrades and application service provider (ASP) computing model have simplified desktop management and lowered maintenance costs by 30 percent.
