Architectural Extensions for Elliptic Curve Cryptography Over GF(2m)

Overview This paper describes data path extensions for general-purpose microprocessors to accelerate the emerging public-key cryptosystem Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC). ECC is computationally more efficient than the popular RSA cryptosystem and, thus, is an enabling security technology for light-weight devices that are limited in compute power, memory capacity, and battery power.
