The Performance of Turbo Coded OFDM System

Overview This paper presents an evaluation of the combined use of the Turbo Codes (TC) and the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM). The 3GPP turbo codes specification combined with a BPSK OFDM scheme has been modelled and simulated under fading additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels. The goal is to evaluate the performance of the turbo coded OFDM (TCOFDM) system for minimum number of decoding iterations. The simulation results show that the TCOFDM system achieves large coding gain with lower BER and reduced decoding iterations, therefore offering higher data rate in wireless mobile communications.
