MercadoLibre.com Turns to HP for Increased IT Performance to More Flexibly Support Its Rapidly Growing Business

Overview MercadoLibre.com is the most important virtual communities in the rapidly growing Internet purchase and sales market segment of Latin America. In 2003, the Company experienced a three-fold growth in business volumes. This posed a challenge for MercadoLibre.com's IT management team, which had to add capacity to the infrastructure in order to enhance performance and to continue supporting the explosive growth. The Company decided to migrate to an eight-node HP Integrity rx5670 server cluster, each with four Itanium 2 processors. MercadoLibre.com had its complete infrastructure hosted in a data center in Virginia, comprised of a 24-processor Sun servers running the core "e-Trading" application with an Oracle database.
