The Determinants of Employment of Affiliates of U.S. Multinational Enterprises in Africa

Overview Several studies have shown that the employment of foreign affiliates of multinational enterprises can promote growth by boosting domestic wages, increasing domestic employment, fostering the transfer of technology between foreign and domestic firms and enhancing the productivity of the labor force in host countries. Yet, the factors that affect multinational employment in Africa have not been studied. This paper employs panel data to examine the determinants of employment of U.S. affiliates in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).
