Network Evolution Comes to the Central Office: Powered by Intel Architecture, Delivered by Copper Mountain Networks
Overview Enhancing profitability by delivering a mix of advanced network services is a top priority for copper-based broadband service providers. Video, voice applications, games, music and entertainment can help build new revenue. Provisioning this broad range of services in a scalable and cost-effective fashion requires an evolution of the Central Office (CO) infrastructure. Copper Mountain's VantEdge Broadband Services Concentrator (BSC) provides the industry's first intelligent access solution specifically designed to reduce the cost of delivering high-revenue services. To implement the VantEdge design, Copper Mountain chose a modular, standards-based platform that features Intel IXP1250 network processors for high-speed packet processing and flexible programmability. The platform also incorporates a CompactPCI-compliant compute/control subsystem featuring the Intel Pentium III processor-Low Power.
