Texas Instruments Case Study: Airline Baggage Identification

Overview For the airline industry, getting passengers to their destinations on time and with their accompanying luggage is a feat that requires identifying and tracking millions of items daily. With Tag-it, smart labels the airlines now have highly reliable, economical baggage identification and tracking solution for positive passenger-to-baggage verification and reconciliation. In 1999, British Airways completed live trials of Tag-it smart labels at Heathrow Airport on behalf of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) using existing high volume routes from Manchester and Munich. The trials clearly demonstrated the effectiveness of the technology in identifying and tracking baggage transported through the sortation systems.
