Digital Signal Processing Solutions in Optical Networking

Overview This white paper introduces Texas Instruments (TI) Digital Signal Processing (DSP) solutions for optical networking. An overview of the use of DSP in optical networking component control is presented. Optical networking applications discussed include fiber-optic control loops for erbium-doped fiber amplifiers and MEMS-based optical switches. A discussion on using DSP for thermoelectric cooler control is also included. Finally, a summary of current TI TMS320 DSP platforms, with highlights of strengths and benefits by architecture, is presented.
