A Dynamic Model of Female Labor Force Participation Rate and Human Capital Investment
Overview In this paper a dynamic model of human capital investment and labor participation decision is developed with the purpose of explaining several stylized facts found in the data. The main empirical fact the authors are concerned with is that married women's labor force participation rate is u-shaped over the course of development. The paper also analyzes the behavior of the relative education levels of men and women, the relative education levels of women in the labor force and outside of it, as well as the magnitude and sign of income and wage effects, as an economy develops.
