One or Many Kuznets Curves?: Short and Long Run Effects of the Impact of Skill-Biased Technological Change on Income Inequality
Overview In the last two decades, within-country income inequality (WCII) has shown different patterns around the world. Even though the 'average' country can be said to have experienced an upward trend during this period, examples of increasing and decreasing trends can be found in both developed and developing countries. Since several countries have at the same time been affected by a process of increasing globalisation, intended as increased international trade and foreign direct investments, it has been natural for economists to ask whether a causal link between globalisation and income inequality exists. The focus of this paper is in particular on developing countries (DCs).
