U.S. Office of Personnel Management Case Study: State of New Jersey

Overview The State of New Jersey's Department of Personnel was using a task defined job classification system that had resulted in the creation of over 15,000 separate position descriptions. They turned to the experts at OPM to help them streamline this system. Using HR Manager, a competency based system, the State of New Jersey was able to reduce the number of position descriptions to under 3,000. This consolidation has allowed the Department of Personnel to better respond to the changing needs of other state agencies, provide better customer service, and reduce turnaround times.
