Sweden: Public e-procurement System Saves Taxpayers' Money

Overview Accepting the common wisdom that a lot of taxpayers' money can be saved by coordinating public procurement procedures, the Swedish government established a coordination function for public procurement in 1998. The task was to coordinate the procurement of all 300 authorities operating directly under the government and its more than 230,000 employees. One result of the agency's efforts is the development and deployment of the Swedish Internet-based public e-procurement system, IHS.
