Linux/Intel Effectiveness as a Scalable Database Server: A Case Study of Lithonia Lighting Oracle E-Business Suite Implementation

Overview Lithonia Lighting is the world's largest manufacturer of lighting equipment for industrial, commercial, outdoor, and residential use, with sales of approximately $1.5 billion per year. It is located in the Atlanta metro area. Lithonia Lighting recently implemented Oracle E-Business Suite (Oracle11i) with Oracle9i RAC on Dell Servers running Red Hat Linux Advanced Server. After the implementation of the Oracle E-Business Suite implementation, there was over 50% reduction in critical batch jobs and online response time, and the overall performance of the Oracle database and applications improved after the migration to the Dell/RedHat/Oracle9i RAC environment.
