Java White Papers

Ford Motor Company's Java Center of Excellence

Overview Dearborn, Michigan-based Ford Motor Company is a Fortune 5 company with 2002 total sales and revenue of $163 billion. Its well-oiled business processes are driven by the latest information technology, particularly by Web-based applications. However, when it came to developing those applications, Ford wasn't best in class. By standardizing its technologies and processes enterprise-wide, Ford could reutilize components and frameworks to reduce time-to-market and development costs and also leverage best practices to deliver the quality that can exceed service level agreements. To accomplish its objective for a pattern-based architecture, Ford selected Java and Java 2, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) technologies as the company's standard application development environment.
