LG.Philips LCD Restructures Global Operations With Oracle E-Business Suite, Projects Benefits Totaling US$104.7 Million Over Five Years
Overview In 1999, LG.Philips LCD Co., Ltd., a joint venture of Netherlands-based Philips Electronics N.V and South Korean manufacturer LG Electronics Inc., achieved record sales revenue, setting an industry milestone by selling more than 1 million liquid crystal displays (LCDs) for monitors. Three years later, however, LCD sales were weakening amid a global supply glut and lagging demand for flat screen TVs, forcing LCD manufacturers to reassess their individual operations as well as the overall industry. In response, LG.Philips LCD laid out a plan to improve operational efficiency in four areas: supply chain management, financial management, customer service, and human resources. To execute its plan, LG.Philips LCD invested US$25.9 million in an Oracle solution, including software, hardware and consulting services.
