A Silver Lining of SOX
Overview Controls are (or should be) embedded in processes - and the IT systems that enable them - to achieve organizational objectives and manage risks. An old method is the use of reporting systems, such as financial consolidation software, that follow the flow of financial and performance information. But the financial information is often disconnected from controls information, so when business changes occur, controls don't change accordingly. When control information isn't linked with the flow of financial and performance information, it becomes outdated and of little value. But documenting the flow of financial and performance information for Sarbanes-Oxley can be an opportunity to align the separate flows of business/financial and control information.
