Cherwell District Council's CCTV Scheme, Gains a £500,000 LSP Partnership With Thames Valley Police
Overview In the early 1990s, the council and Thames Valley Police worked in partnership to implement a state-of-the-art CCTV scheme for the district that helped secure more than 2,000 arrests, by the end of 2002. In 2003, this partnership became one of the first to completely refurbish, as well as expand, its CCTV scheme. At present, this scheme continues to deter crime with a successful arrest rate. One of the key driving forces behind the scheme has been the Cherwell residents' demands to, 'reduce crime and tackle the drugs problem' within the area. It is now the number one priority for the district's Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) and a priority theme in the Cherwell Community Plan 2016.
