Conwy County Borough Council - The Three Schools Private Finance Initiative Project

Overview Conwy County Borough Council was formed in April 1996. At a very early stage in its development, the council identified significant deficiencies in the assets it had inherited, and in particular, certain educational establishments. Given the limited capital resources available, the council decided to explore the PFI route as a means of improving its assets. The three schools involved were Ysgol Aberconwy at Conwy, Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy at Llanrwst and Ysgol John Bright at Llandudno. In 2000, the Enterprise Education was chosen as the successful organisation, through a selection process. Alfred McAlpine managed the construction work, and Sodexho provided the facility management. The project is one of the largest local government PFI Projects in Wales to date.
