Procurement and Sourcing White Papers

IBM Case Study: Saks Incorporated

Overview Saks operates its Saks Department Store Group with 243 department stores under the Parisian, Proffitt's, McRae's, Younkers, Herberger's, Carson Pirie Scott, Bergner's and Boston Store names. Saks wanted to automate the manual system with an Internet-based e-procurement system that would simplify purchasing and facilitate new business processes. The system had to handle a large number of supplier catalogs, integrate effectively with existing financial and other systems, and provide benefits both to Saks executives and store employees. IBM provided an on-demand e-sourcing service called Leveraged Procurement Services (LPS), plus procurement and other expertise from IBM Global Services. LPS, an advanced e-procurement system, combines the Ariba Buyer software solution and strategic sourcing expertise from IBM Global Services to provide Saks with online supplier catalogs.
