Het Gemeenschapsonderwijs Consolidates Financials to Promote Public Accountability
Overview Het Gemeenschapsonderwijs is a Flemish public sector organization (VOI) that coordinates and structures an educational network of schools and other learning facilities throughout the Flemish community. Financial data at Het Gemeenschapsonderwijs was being stored on everything from paper-based books to simple Excel and Access programs, making it difficult, time-consuming and expensive to create a consolidated view of the organization's accounts. To fulfill its mandate of having more transparent operations and greater accountability to the public, the group needed a consistent, integrated accounting solution rolled out uniformly to its more than 700 geographically widespread facilities. IBM Business Consulting Services helped Het Gemeenschapsonderwijs convert all of its budgetary cash accounting processes to an accrual-based system, then implemented a centrally-hosted Web-based Oracle e-business financial solution.
