Overview During the 1999-2000 academic year, data was gathered from six selected colleges and universities in Ohio that revealed current operational practices regarding the establishment, practices, procedures, administration and management of distance education programs. The state of Ohio was chosen because it had, at the time of the study, 29 higher education institutions actively involved in distance education. Representative institutions from various classifications (i.e. state and private community colleges, four-year colleges, and universities) were found in Ohio.
