Luminous Networks Case Study: China Netcom Corporation

Overview China Netcom, one of the top three telecommunications carriers in China, has deployed the Luminous Networks PacketWave metro optical access switch for both TDM and IP services in an aggressive 11-city installation. China Netcom is using Luminous Networks' optical switching platform to provide multiple services in major Chinese cities in five provinces. China Netcom (CNC) is offering both voice and data services in direct competition with the incumbent PTT. Luminous Networks' PacketWave metro optical access platform provides an efficient multi-service solution for CNC, with its MPLS-and RPR-based solutions. CNC anticipates adding new services via the other interfaces available on PacketWave, including DWDM wavelengths (STM-N and Fibre Channel), ASI MPEG video for video-on-demand, and broadcast video.
