Synthetic Ferrimagnetic Media

Overview The high areal densities realized today in commercial rigid disk drives are the results of scaling made possible by significant developments in media, head, channel, and coding technologies. The number of grains per bit has been approximately maintained to obtain the necessary signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for adequate bit error rates at a specified areal density. This paper describes the microstructure, magnetic properties, thermal stability, and read-write properties of synthetic ferrimagnetic media.
