Shared Networks for WCDMA

Overview In August 2002 the European Commission announced a plan to approve sharing agreements in the UK and Germany between the operators T-Mobile and mmO2. This clearly indicates the willingness of the European Commission, competition authorities and regulators to help operators build their 3G business. In June 2001, Tele2 and Telia were the first operators in Sweden to announce their network-sharing plans. Operators in other countries are now following suit. This white paper will highlight the pros and cons of the different shared-network solutions available today, including the potential for savings in capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX).
