Qualcomm Case Study: City of Alliance Municipal Electric System

Overview The City of Alliance Municipal Electric System (AMES) department distributes electricity to 5,200 customers in Alliance, Neb., which is located in the center of the western Nebraska panhandle. With so much territory to cover, the department wanted to eliminate the multiple trips its field service technicians were making to the office to receive customer trouble-tickets. Field service personnel began taking advantage of the data capabilities in their Kyocera 3225 phones. AMES added Axcess Workforce, a BREW-based application developed by mPortal. With one BREW application and ALLTELL's 3G CDMA network, AMES has moved from a paper-based organization to a fully networked and wirelessly enabled organization.
