Towards a New Internet Architecture? - Or How IPv6 Addresses the Future

Overview A number of prominent researchers in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) have lately warned that the Internet architecture is about to change. This creates new complications and problems, which means that the Internet may not be able to accommodate new types of communications in the future Internet - an internet where computer- and tele-communication have converged and where security, mobility and quality of service can be taken for granted. This paper uses the time glass model to describe the changes in the Internet architecture, and shows how the new problems are being addressed in IETF.
