Wi-Fi (802.11) White Papers
Propogate Networks, Inc: AutoCell - Evaluation of Impact on 802.11 Thoroughput
Overview It is a well-known fact that 802.11a/b/g end stations connected to wireless LANs achieve about half the stated bandwidth of the technology used. Often, the mix of access points (APs) in the WLAN can further erode throughput as overlapping RF footprints create radio interference. One way to mitigate the impact of RF interference is with embedded cognitive radio software that enables resident devices to monitor the airwaves for interference and tune channels when interference is detected. Such automated RF management can result in significant boosts in aggregate throughput achieved across the WLAN.
