Samsung Telecommunications Galaxy Multi-Service Switch

Overview Samsung Telecommunications America (STA) was established by Samsung Electronics Corporation in 1996. Samsung set an aggressive goal to demonstrate the Galaxy platform prototype within six months from project launch. The demonstration prototype was to feature a fully functional distributed IP switch/router. Samsung Telecommunications selected the Intel IXP2800 Network Processor (NPU) as the packet processing engine for the company's next generation "Galaxy" technology platform. One of the key Galaxy program objectives was to create a set of flexible networking modules that can be deployed across multiple product lines, such as multi-service switch/routers, DSLAMs, and 3G wireless applications.
