University of Arizona Safeguards Resources With Cisco Security Solutions
Overview The University of Arizona is one of the top-ranked research schools in the nation, with 300 degree programs offered through 15 colleges to more than 34,000 students. They faced the challenge to protect a large campus network from internal and external attacks, while fostering open information flow. University implemented integrated intrusion detection system (IDS) and firewall solutions in Cisco switches and routers with Cisco virtual private network (VPN). This implementation dramatically reduced the number of security alarms, allowing for easier detection of malicious activity and r educed service provider costs by eliminating unwanted traffic.
