Computing Model Complexity
Overview Metrics have been applied - and misapplied - to software systems for a number of decades now. In a perfect world, metrics provide both a measure of quality, an estimate of defect rates, and even the likely location of defects in a given system. In general, a metric is a measurement of some characteristics of the system that is, in theory, related to an important system aspect that is difficult to measure or compute directly. This paper focuses on UML model metrics rather than software metrics, even though the history of such metrics is primarily developed in the software industry.
