TIAX Case Study: Air Warrior
Overview Over time, individual pieces of equipment have added to the system without being properly integrated into it. The result was a flying ensemble that was heavy, bulky, overly complex, and possibly even dangerous. The Air Warrior program was charged with reversing this trend through an emphasis on human performance and systems integration. The TIAX team was charged with optimizing the survival seat-pack design and with determining the best placement, physical shape, and size for all components of the system. The new survival seat-pack is significantly less bulky than its predecessor, and test pilots report less interference with the aircraft door and flight controls.
