UML 2.0 - Finally a Way Forward for SASD Practioners?
Overview Structured Analysis and Structured Design (SASD) techniques have been around for over twenty years, and usage in certain areas of systems and software development, particularly system engineering in large aerospace and defense projects, is still found today. At the same time, thinking on visual modeling has evolved significantly, with the arrival, in the late nineties, of the Unified Modeling Language, UML. This paper looks at the latest version of UML, UML 2.0, and shows how it now offers a forward path for SASD users, in not only covering existing concepts but also offering a host of new benefits to the systems and software development community.
