Transco Selects Oracle9iAS for £100m Technology Upgrade of UK's Gas Distribution Network
Overview Transco controls gas shipments to the United Kingdom's 70 major suppliers and is responsible for ensuring that gas is delivered safely and efficiently to more than 20 million consumers around the country. Transco's command and control system was based on a combination of bespoke telemetry and proprietary legacy technology. While still inherently safe, the system was becoming out of date and relied heavily on time-consuming manual processes, making it inefficient, inflexible, and increasingly expensive to operate. Transco evaluated solutions from several leading suppliers but selected Oracle9iAS because of its scalability, true e-enablement functionality, and ability to integrate seamlessly with specialized energy-related applications and security tools.
