Overview The purpose of this paper is to give the European audience some idea of the state and politics of homeland security in the United States and its implications for transatlantic security. This paper first explains some unique features of the domestic politics of homeland security in the United States. Then, this paper explains some of the important changes in U.S. homeland security since September 11. Finally, this paper assesses some of the implications of all of this for transatlantic relations.
