Quaker Oats Satisifes Appetite for Server-Based Computing

Overview Quaker Foods Europe, a division of the Quaker Oats supplies breakfast cereal in Northern Europe (Benelux, Scandinavia, and the United Kingdom) as well as Spain and parts of Africa. The challenge that faced Quaker Foods Europe during its migration from Windows 95 to 2000 was two-fold. First, upgrading Quaker's existing PCs and completing the migration from the legacy Novell operating system would be very costly and time-consuming. Second, ongoing day-to-day administration, support, and upgrades for their remote sites was difficult with a small support team. Quaker decided to address both these challenges by moving to a server-based computing platform using Citrix MetaFrame, and implementing a thin-client desktop strategy. This strategy would use Wyse Winterm terminals together with Wyse Alcatraz software to manage the remaining PCs.
