Hitachi Case Study: Japan Rail East Ticketing
Overview The East Japan Railway Company (JRE) is the largest of the six regional passenger rail companies, created when Japanese National Railways. The Super Urban Intelligent CArd (Suica Card) implemented by the JRE is a contactless smart card that allows automatic fare collection. Hitachi has implemented the back office systems that manage the cards and the millions of daily transactions at gates and ticket machines. Suica Cards used as seasonal passes with stored fare, or simple stored fare. It makes automatic extensions to season period passes paid from stored fare value. Suica Cards benefits in improved & faster service for customers and reduction in equipment maintenance costs.
