Sun Microsystems' Processor and Network Products Group: Sun Ray Ultra-Thin Client Success Story

Overview Electronic design automation (EDA) is the epitome of compute-intensive applications. The hallmark of EDA computing is performing incredibly high numbers of computations on unbelievably large amounts of data. The mission of Gateley's Compute Resources group is to speed development of new versions of the UltraSPARC processor by dedicating increasingly massive computing power. The challenge was to streamline systems administration processes and reduce costs. The Compute Resources group prefers to use Sun Ray ultra-thin clients for certain applications because of their significant cost and operational benefits. Not only do Sun Ray ultra- thin clients cost far less than desktop workstations, they dramatically simplify hardware and software upgrades and other administrative tasks.
