Information Assurance and Critical Infrastructure Protection: A Federal Perspective
Overview The Internet and associated electronic communications has become an indispensable tool for both business and government. However, the reliance on a networked electronic society is not risk free. Security breaches, theft of proprietary information, privacy risk, financial fraud, and sabotage of data or networks are emerging threats in the new information age. Engineering practices and technology cannot produce systems that are totally immune to attack, but the risks can be reduced and made manageable. This article presents some recommendations for government to overcome these shortcomings.
