Wi-Fi (802.11) White Papers

Cerner Corporation's Wireless Rx

Overview Cerner Corporation is a major developer of health care information management systems. Adding a wireless component to a traditional local-area network (LAN), or creating a stand-alone WLAN, involves a number of challenges, particularly in the health care arena, where network downtime can literally mean the difference between life and death. Cerner Corporation and Cisco have developed and refined a wireless solution based on the IEEE 802b.11, or "Wi-Fi," industry standard. The solution offers throughput of at least 11 megabits per second (Mbps), and connects with doctors, caregivers, and administrators using any number of wireless terminal carts or handheld personal digital assistants (PDAs), laptops, and/or tablets.
