Execute Disable Bit and Service Pack 2: Improving PC Security
Overview
In the past few years, the PC security landscape has changed significantly. With a substantial increase in attacks against software vulnerabilities and the startling speed in which the attacks propagate, PC security has developed into a serious business issue, threatening data, productivity and profits. In an effort to offer better data protection and decrease system and network downtime caused by malicious code, Microsoft launched Microsoft® Windows® XP Service Pack 2 with significant security enhancements. This demo will shed some light on the increased protection enabled by PCs based on the Intel® Pentium® 4 processor supporting Hyper-Threading Technology(1) with Execute Disable Bit and Microsoft® Windows® XP Service Pack 2.
(1) Hyper-Threading Technology requires a computer system with an Intel® Pentium® 4 processor supporting Hyper-Threading Technology and an HT Technology enabled chipset, BIOS and operating system. Performance will vary depending on the specific hardware and software you use. See http://www.intel.com/info/hyperthreading/ for more information including details on which processors support HT Technology
