J2ME APIs: Which APIs Come From the J2SE Platform?

Overview This paper presents a brief overview of the Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) platform, configurations such as the Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC), profiles such as the Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP), and the KVM, followed by a comparison of a Java virtual machine1 supporting CLDC and a Java 2 Standard Edition (J2SE)-based Java virtual machine. This paper also describes the J2SE Java virtual machine features supported by the KVM, what classes have been inherited from the J2SE by the CLDC, and specifically, what new classes have been added to the CLDC.
