Applying WAP Technology in Control Applications
Overview Singapore Polytechnic wanted to control and monitor a process remotely using WAP technology. They implemented Foundation Fieldbus pilot plant with a WAP hand-held device using National Instruments Lookout and Fieldbus configuration software. The WAP protocol uses a layered architecture similar to that of a computer network. Singapore Polytechnic also loaded an application server running National Instruments Fieldbus configurator and Lookout for connecting to a Foundation Fieldbus pilot plant. This solution provided a good alternative to other solutions and used Web server and ASP pages special client software eliminating additional costs.
