Anti-Hacking White Papers

About Ports and Trojans ...

Overview Some Trojans can be "adjusted" to listen on practically any port, so don't rely on lists of known ports used by known Trojans. Because a trojan in your machine could theoretically use any of 65,535 ports to transfer information to an attacker, you theoretically would need to watch every single such port to ensure that it was not in use. But not only is this a slow process, but if you find that an unusual port is in use, determining what is using it is not straightforward.
