Automating Problem Determination: A First Step Toward Self-Healing Computing Systems

Overview While the Internet and e-business technologies have created new business opportunities and helped streamline processes and speed communications, the underlying technical infrastructure has become more difficult to manage. The goal of problem management is to minimize the adverse impact of incidents and problems in the IT infrastructure on the business and to prevent recurrence of incidents related to those errors. Problem management seeks to discover the root cause of incidents and to then initiate actions to permanently improve or correct the situation. IBM has made two submissions, which are specifically related to problem determination, to the Web Services Distributed Management Technical Committee (WS-DM) in OASIS, including the Common Base Events and Web Services Manageability submissions.
