Varmland County Council, Sweden, Accelerates Patient Data Access With IBM TotalStorage SAN Volume Controller

Overview Varmland County Council in central Sweden is responsible for the health and welfare of more than 270,000 citizens. As data was held in different systems in different locations, requests for medical data from healthcare workers were taking too long to fulfill. In addition, the administrative work involved in tracking down and preparing the relevant data was causing costs to rise. Varmland selected IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Storage Server model 800, IBM TotalStorage LTO UltraScalable Tape Library 3584, IBM eServer pSeries and two IBM eServer xSeries servers. Both hospital sites have recently invested in IBM TotalStorage SAN Volume Controller (SVC), which will allow them to virtualise their storage capacity for easier management, and greater flexibility and scalability.
