IPv4 / IPv6 Coexistence Using the Kichips ClassAct Co-Processor
Overview Despite the successful deployment of IPv4 throughout the Internet, limitations inherent in the protocol restrict the network's growth. IPv6 was developed in 1995 by the IETF to address these limitations and has reached a level and quality suitable for commercial deployment. Protocol transitions are not easy, however, and the transition from IPv4 to IPv6 is no exception. The designers of IPv6 recognized that the transition from IPv4 to IPv6 will take years. During this period of transition, both protocols will be in use over the same infrastructure. To address this, this paper describes IPv4 and IPv6 coexistence technologies and how these technologies are supported by Kichips' solution.
