Geographical Positioning Extension for IPv6

Overview Geographical Positioning is one of the key technologies in the current cellular communication systems. Particularly, methods for distributing position data between network nodes enable new group of services and applications to be implemented. Currently there are several methods, which enable such distribution. Surprisingly, however, no such method exists for IPv6. This paper introduces a new protocol called GPIPv6, which is defined for distribution of positioning data within IPv6.
